- Estimator required for a Social Housing decent homes contractor based in Birmingham. This is a family owned contractor formed in 1892 and still have an ever-present in and around the East & West Midlands.
The majority of their workload is within the decent homes so candidates with this experience would be desired. They wouldn’t however discount social housing new build experience preferably with another social housing contractor.
Duties:
• Liaison with design, planning, production and commercial functions
• Preparation of a true net build cost
• Cost planning
• Pre-contract input of supply chain
• Management of RIMS database
• Value management to improve bids
• Commercial risk management
• Pre-contract / post contract lessons learned.

Duties:

There are some bid management skills required for this role:
• Management and development of the pre-contract team

• Post tender client negotiations and presentations

- Assistant Quantity Surveyor required for care home developments in Birmingham. These are approximately £7m in value and consist of high rise and mixed use.
The Contractor is looking for applicants who are already degree qualified and have a minimum of five years experience in a Surveying capacity. Ideally somebody who is confident, assertive and ready to manage their own projects as a number one surveyor.
Due to the nature of these developments candidates with a project history of hotels, student accommodation or residential high rise will only be considered.
Duties to include:
• Manage a number of contracts/developments providing financial and commercial leadership.
• Predominantly office based but site presence is required as much as is practicably possible.
• Procure sub-contracts from tender enquiry to analysis and letting.
• Sub-contractor management from order placement through to final account.
• Accurately predict weekly expenditure on a 4 week rolling period.
• Maximise value recovery.
• Minimise cost expenditure.
• Ensure payments are timely and in accordance with the Housing Grant Act.
• Reconcile and accurately report the cost/value position via VCR/ELF including sub-contract liability statements.
• Cost variation analysis.
• House type costing schedules.
• Ensure the Managing Surveyor/Commercial Manager is kept fully informed of all commercial issues.
• Ensure external valuations are carried out as required.
• Liaise with all departments on commercial issues.
• Attend design team, value engineering, internal project review and external Client meetings as required.

- Senior Quantity Surveyor required for a Social Housing division of a main contractor based in Birmingham.This division has been given a lot of attention from the start of 2010.The Chief Executive has invested a lot of time and money into marketing and business developing this team to maximise on their business opportunities moving forward.
You will be supporting the Commercial Manager with all budgetary and financial matters aswell as mentoring five other surveyors in the team.
Duties to include:
·establish site budgets based on original feasibilities and on the bespoke design of the units and sites;
·completion of contract documents;
·subcontract procurement and buying of all packages;
·raising of interim applications;
·cost reporting to the client, including raising and evaluating all contractor variations through to the agreement of final account statements.
This Contractor specifically needs individuals from a social housing background because of the nature of their business.The types of projects include care homes, affordable housing units and mixed tenure developments.Also previous managerial experience is a must.
Salary is negotiable but the maximum range is £40,000.

- Quantity Surveyor required for North Midlands BSF Scheme due to start September 2010.
Candidates must have previous experience building, refurbishing or extending primary or secondary schools ideally in a PFI or BSF nature.
Duties will consist of:
• Breaking down cost plan into package allowances and identification of procurement dates
• Preparation of monthly costs reports and cash flow forecasts
• Responsibility for procurement and commercial administration of sub-contract packages
• Forecasting final costs and identifying areas of commercial risk and opportunity
• Attending monthly project review meetings
• Management and forecasting of preliminaries
• Identification and valuation of change orders
This BSF scheme will include three new academies circa £24m each and include minor cut & carve.
