- Quantity Surveying opportunities available for social housing new build and refurbishment projects around the Walsall, Wolverhampton and Herefordshire area.
This particular contractor’s business is almost exclusively devoted to the social housing sector. They have a turnover of £420 million through long-term partnering framework deals with both existing and new clients. The division has a forward order book of £1.5 billion going into 2010.
They have a number of commercial opportunities but are specifically looking for individuals who are experienced within the Social Housing sector. This includes working on refurbishment and social housing schemes through frameworks agreements and partnering schemes.
Key Accountabilities:
• Profit – reconcile cost/value reports, reconcile profit forecasts, provide feedback on any deviation from costs bills and control all expenditure
• Valuation/Finance – compile valuations with PQS, record and price variations, maximize external valuations and fully recover any losses, prepare internal valuations to determine accurate costs reports, measure works accurately, prepare and accurately forecast Final Accounts
• Sub contract control – accurately value sub contracts works, prepare subcontract liability statements, ensure compliance with subcontractor conditions, minute sub contract meetings, agree final accounts, recover any losses
• Legal/Contractual – ensure compliance with contract conditions
• Quality Assurance – ensure compliance with QA procedures and audit QA procedures
• Training and developing any Junior staff

- Bid Manager required by one of the industry’s leading family owned contractors in the UK today.
This is a brand new position within the existing bid team which will see the creation of a new preconstruction team to cover West Midlands new build and refurbishment, East Midlands, South West and South Wales.
The core skills needed for this role are knowledge of opportunity and risk management including value creation. Previous ownership and management of a design, planning and estimating team. The ability to present bids for sign off to the main board, deal with any settlements which arise and ultimately win work for the business.
The desired individual will ultimately be responsible for a £60m business unit. Projects are a mixture of PFI extra care homes, new build social housing up to and over 200 units and decent home framework contracts.
As this is for a social housing contractor, only candidates with a social housing background will be considered. Also, experience of PFI projects would be advantage. If you can demonstrate preconstruction and experience of the core skills mentioned above then this could be a very good opportunity for the right person.

Residential biased Contracts Manager sought by one of the leading specialist providers of affordable housing in the UK. Their aim is to provide a team of enthusiastic and experienced staff, to assist Registered Social Landlords
and Local Authorities to achieve their development aspirations on time, within budget and
to high standards of design and quality. Turnover for this group is £85m and they have offices spread over the UK.
Main duties and responsibilities are as follows:-
• Ensure method statements and risk assessments are in place for every trade prior to their commencement on site
• Prepare construction programmes and ensure they are adhered to
• Co-ordinate with the Planning Supervisor
• Attend regular meetings i.e. client, site and VCR
• Carry out regular site visits Prior to site start produce construction phase Health, Safety, Waste and Fire Plan
• Responsible for producing at the end of the contract the O & M, Health & Safety Manuals and Tenant Manuals
• Liaise with Technical, Surveying, Procurement and Safety Departments
• Ensure the correct level of quality is achieved and maintained at all times
• Carry out staff personal planning meetings

• Understanding of Health and Safety regulations
• Good IT skills with knowledge of Outlook, Excel and word together excellent Microsoft project skills.
