Chris Bell joins PSR as International Director

04 Jun 2018

Back in the days of Hill McGlynn, PSR MD James Sanders and now PSR’s International Director, Chris Bell, shared the same vision of how construction recruitment should be done. On the same team again, we are delighted to welcome Chris on board…

Chris Bell, International Director | PSR Solutions

Excited by the prospect of playing a significant role in the future growth of the business, Chris has welcomed the opportunity to join a like-minded specialist recruiter and is keen to build on the unique values and ethics adopted by PSR. Like us, Chris believes it is really important to ‘treat people how we would expect to be treated ourselves’.

Chris’s competitive nature has always been apparent; at the tender age of 13 he was invited to play for Southampton FC’s academy – at the very same time as Matt LeTissier would have also been there as Chris used to play against Francis Benalli!

In 2016, Chris penned and published THE Job Search Book: How to smash that interview and get the job you really want.

Now, aside from a little grey hair (his words not ours), Chris brings heavyweight recruitment credentials to the board. Having cut his teeth on projects such as the prestigious Chek Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong, spending 14 years with Hill McGlynn latterly developing the south east Asia markets throughout Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia working on world-class projects he then headed to sunny Melbourne, Australia in 2001 where he quickly grew the business to a 5-strong office covering the country and stayed for 11 years! After returning to the UK and running Carillion’s internal recruitment business Skyblue, Chris went on to launch the SkyBlue business into Canada which he thoroughly enjoyed. We’re delighted he returned to the UK as it means we can take full advantage of this impressive backdrop of construction recruitment experience spanning over 25 years!

We asked Chris what he feels is a particular challenge for the industry right now:

“The immediate challenge facing most businesses in the UK is Brexit, however once all the shouting has died down, I’m confident that the UK will continue to grow and the industry will be able to get back to business and focus on building relationships throughout Europe and further afield overseas. The other key challenge is finding and securing the right people in an ever-competitive market, but that’s what we do so we need to support our clients and candidates and ensure we understand their challenges and turn them into opportunities. Employers need to focus on making their business and work environment as attractive as possible to sustain the lifeblood of their organisations, their staff.”

It’s clear Chris has a keen eye for opportunity and drive for success, yet ardently keeps the important things close. Chris’s advice for anyone entering the construction recruitment industry right now is to keep at it, seek guidance and help from all around you and to get right back up again if something knocks you down! Follow your mentors and influencers and duplicate what they do to reach their goals – you’ll get there too.

Heavily inspired by Anthony Robins, Tim Ferris, Gary Vaynerchuk and of course Bill Hicks, Chris finds inspiration in the people around him, regardless of level, and especially his family. Always seeking to get the best from people, Chris aims to lead from the front, starting out as a trainee and working up to director means he’s been there and can demonstrate that what you put in, you get out.  Chris shares that even if you have a solid plan, the crucial thing to get results is action, something you can only really deliver if your heart is in the job.

From everyone at PSR, welcome Chris!
