Giving something back - Summer Conference 17

18 Sep 2017

This years’ PSR summer conference was all about teamwork and collaboration…

We’ve encountered some big changes over the last 12 months, including office moves for our Midlands and London teams, the opening of a new  Sheffield office and multiple new team members join the PSR family.

With all these exciting changes, focusing our shared interest in PSR and the people who work within it, seemed like a fitting theme.

Teamwork

Katharine House Hospice is an important local charity situated near to PSR’s HQ in the Midlands. Operating throughout Staffordshire, the charity provides a range of services offering help, care and support for people with advanced life-limiting conditions, creating a home-from-home environment.

One of this years’ team-building exercises was for our staff to spend some time volunteering in a number of Katharine House shops, recycling centres plus within the hospice itself to assist whenever anything needed doing such as groundworks or gardening.

Below are just a few images from the exercises the team took part in:

Katharine House relies heavily on donations and volunteer work to keep its invaluable services running across the large county of Staffordshire. Therefore, teamwork and collaboration runs deep through the extensive network that Katharine House has built for itself since opening in 1989.

Although PSR is a different type of organisation, we recognise the importance of having a strong team spirit running at the core of the organisation so we’re thankful to the charity for allowing us to share in their team spirit and contribute to the fantastic work that is being done.

Holly Addison, Katherine House's Corporate Fundraiser commented on the morning - “We were delighted to work with PSR as part of their summer conference. We have never accommodated a group of this size before but it was fantastic to have support in so many different locations. The team were really enthusiastic and worked incredibly hard making a huge impact. Everyone here at Katharine House cannot thank everyone enough. We look forward to working with PSR again in the future.”

Collaboration

The next phase of our conference focussed on collaboration.  We’re no strangers to understanding how collaboration across multiple offices with differing strategies is a huge challenge.

Designated directors from each office delivered a 15-minute update showcasing their successes and challenges for the year to date. Each group were then quizzed as to whether they had any ideas on what could be done to combat the collaboration challenges we face.

Not only did this give the wider team chance to have their say on the business’ direction, but also gave them a transparent view on our progress as a business this year. The aim of this was to realign each office to ensure we collectively drive the business forward as we approach the busiest time of the year for many construction recruitment firms.

After the business updates, the team enjoyed a well-earned evening at Stafford’s bowling alleys. The mission was given to all support staff to come up with a team name, team member names and arrive with a prop… The team with the worst idea were awarded a wooden spoon!

Only Fools and Horses, Star Wars, the Royal Family and The Incredibles are among just a few teams that appeared on the night.

Once the chaos had ended, those who wanted to hit the town had VIP passes to the local club and enjoyed further celebrations with the team.

PSR London Director, Nathan Hazelwood spoke on the evening:

“Giving back to the community by volunteering at the hospice, a bit of competition at bowling, finished off with something most of us are good at (partying) made for a perfect balance to the day.

It was clear that everyone had a good time and it was great to see all 3 offices together in a positive environment…”
