M&E, Management & Motherhood and Management: Flip sides

I’m Narinder, and this is my blog showcasing the intricacies of leading a busy construction recruitment desk from PSR’s HQ. I’m a single mum with two young lives to fulfil as well as some of the best M&E jobs in the business, this is what it’s like…

Wow, never had so much fuss before, walk into work to be greeted by giant-sized balloons just to remind me of my [significant?] age tomorrow. My work Fam, (AKA family) PSR, have really put some thought in to this one!

My mobile phone is ringing, need to answer... “you may be able to make a claim based on your recent accident” … ‘bleep’-off, so sick of these spammy answer calls and I am sure you have all had them too?

My first thought is that it’s a key candidate I have headhunted the day before and I’m eagerly awaiting their response. I specialise in M&E, building services and it’s a HARD desk, yet without these services our buildings wouldn’t function or be able to come to life!!!

In my mind I am planning my busy morning but am also going over how my son and I have just had a bust up outside breakfast club because he is 8 going on 18 with some serious mood swings lately, sound familiar? Crossing fingers that the breakfast club teacher didn’t hear me telling him off (#badmom!).

Sat down, thankful for my card and balloons, emails sent.  Birthday sinking in… hmm, I have a day off tomorrow yay… but wait, OMG this means I need to make double the calls today to make up for it, pressure, pressure!

Just confirmed an 8am meeting with a client on my day off and the day that people say life begins at, we shall see.  In my world of ‘Client if King’ however I had little choice.

As a single mum, I work around the clock and I [hope] am a good example of how women can be hugely successful in recruitment, with this in mind I had to put work first didn’t I?

Whilst focussing on my morning meeting I’m now worrying about letting mum down (birthday rendezvous) who gave birth to me 21 years ago ;-) lol x2 -2.

So I find myself in two minds; sell in candidates versus a lie-in (which of course those of you with children will know, cease to exist the second you have a child).

Follow me right here on the blog for my follow up and get in touch with me if you’d like to know more about my current opportunities in M&E.
