The London Office two years on

30 Jul 2018

PSR began their London business venture when they opened their first office in Hammersmith, 2010. The next move was Moorgate before eventually moving into the ultra-modern penthouse office in Barbican, 2016.

London Director Nathan Hazelwood explained the timely move to the new office and regional growth as a direct result of this.

‘The office move came at a perfect time. We were initially based near Moorgate and when I joined the business there was nine or ten [staff]’.

‘We knew that to grow and expand, we needed to invest in the office space. The move reinvigorated the office and made it easier to hire staff because we could offer an excellent working environment’.

‘The office is very central, so in terms of offering candidate’s location and travelling in, it’s a very good spot, even for people that come in from the Hertfordshire and Kent areas, like myself. We’ve now hired a couple of people who are from Kent and Hertfordshire, which just increases our talent pool.’

The move to the highly-modern office space in central London provided staff with an array of equipment to support all their needs to perform.

“Stop being average. Reach your potential, pull out of greatness, achieve it, and be proud.”

‘It took us a little while to get our refit done but I think we have given a good working environment - the breakout area, the bar area, the table tennis and the pool table. If someone has a bad deal or a bad call, rather than give a negative affect out on the trades floor, why don’t you just go and play pool for 10 minutes. Unwind, come back to your desk and get on with it’ said Hazelwood.

Not only did the new office space provide Resourcer’s and Recruiter’s with an enjoyable and upbeat working environment, it also provided them with a platform to exploit the southern construction market and stamp their authority across that region of the UK.

‘The move helped our presence in the market and our brand. There was also a bit of pressure on the office because it cost a lot more than the previous office we were in, but because it’s a first-class set-up. It was very very easy [to deliver] because the guys want the space.’

‘We do an employee engagement survey annually and our engagement score went up considerably the following year. I do believe this office space helped employee engagement, which when you’re hiring, it’s about retaining the staff and maximising productivity.’

All PSR offices like to hire young enthusiastic people to progress through the business and to push themselves to achieve great things. The Barbican office hired a lot of junior staff when they first moved and many of them have now developed their skills set into more senior roles.

Hazelwood spoke about the next step for the office.

‘In terms of being prepared and facing the challenges in the industry and complying with the industry and giving a good service, I believe within two to three years, we’ll be known across the south as being one of the best out there’.
