Experienced Required
  • Previous experience working on high value, major Civil Infrastructure Projects.
  • Main or Principal contractor experience, with direct delivery of projects.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar relevant qualification.
  • Chartered or member of a relevant organisation an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of contractual and commercial risk and change management.

This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the UK's leading contractors on the initial civil elements of HS2.

The Role

Reporting into the Lead Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all commercial aspects of the projects under your remit are properly managed and controlled. That the commercial strategy is developed and delivered in accordance with the requirements of the business.

You will support the financial effectiveness and profitability of the overall project and work packages where required, through diligent application of proper contractual and commercial practices, and with the careful management of risk.

As the successful candidate, your key responsibilities and duties will include:
  • Manage and supervise where necessary the preparation and submission of claims documents.
  • Negotiating with clients representatives, sub-contractors and other consultants
  • Identify change and implement change control process and agreement
  • Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
  • To support with efficient management of all commercial aspects of the Project(s)
  • To manage the development of personal plans and establishment of objectives/targets for commercial staff within the Projects, if required by your Senior Line Manager and monitor on an ongoing basis.
  • To give assistance, support and guidance on all commercial issues within the Projects and ensure that commercial staff are utilised to their maximum potential.
  • Preparation of Cost/Value Reports on a monthly basis to satisfy the requirements of the Senior Line Manager and Ops Commercial Manager and any other reports which may be required.
  • To ensure that all Valuations/Applications/Cost Reports/Final Accounts, etc. are submitted to the Client in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with the relevant contract.
  • To ensure that earned value calculations and detailed projected project outturn costs are produced on a monthly basis.
  • To ensure that all subcontractor/supplier accounts are rigidly managed from requisition stage through to the signature for payment authorisation and final account.
  • To ensure the rigorous management of contract notifications including Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events/variations, extension of time claims, etc.
  • To encourage and develop a culture of contractual awareness and ensure that the full contractual entitlement is achieved by rigidly managing records, contractual notifications, change control, etc.
  • To ensure that best commercial practices are identified, shared and implemented.
