Position: Pre-construction Design Coordinator, West Midlands

Salary: £30,000 - 45,000 + Car / Car allowance + Pension + Health

My client is seeking an office based pre construction Design Coordinator. The organisation is a Regional Main Building contractor who has a reputation in delivering high quality schemes ranging from £250K to £25M. The company carry out work across all sectors; however, their reputation is strong in the sectors of Commercial, Student Accommodation, Retail and Education.

You will work as part of the pre-construction team and assist in a technical capacity in work winning. This will involve advising and assist in the design and build bid, covering all elements of design and technical, from reviewing designs, selection of consultants, risk review, VE and compiling the bid with the estimator as part of a project team.

You will evaluate design and build tenders and produce Contractors Proposals. You will work 'hand in hand' with the estimating department to ensure best value whilst mitigating risks wherever possible.

Typically working on two to three bids at any one time and will reporting directly to the Pre-construction Design Manager.

My client will look at candidates from an Engineering or Architectural background.

Duties & Core Competences will include:
  • Proven design coordinating skills
  • Coordination of design teams including architects, engineers, sub-contractors and other consultants
  • Identifying risks and opportunities during the early stages of projects to maximise quality and value
  • Building close relationships with local authorities and Statutory Services
  • Chairing design team meetings and managing progress including issuing minutes
  • Control design processes
  • Commercial awareness and control on site
  • Experience of working with BIM or understanding of the software would be an advantage, but not a prerequisite for the position
  • Awareness of programme constraints and driving works to meet targets
