Job description

An exciting role exists for a Design Manager or an individual who has the desire and a suitably professional technical background to transfer into the role; you could for example be a Senior Engineer or a Site Manager from a civil engineering background and have had some form of exposure to design. The role can, to some extent be matched to a candidate's experience and skill-set.

The company offering such an opportunity is a tier 1 national contractor with a regional office and a healthy order book in the North-West region.
  • Responsible for management of the design on a particular project, pre/post contract.
  • Be dependable for developing the design programme with consultants and planner for bids or projects.
  • Manage the design process to comply with the policies and procedures contained within the IMS governance systems.
  • Identify design requirements for the bid from the client's remit.
  • To deliver the precise design by understanding the design opportunities and mitigating the risks to warrant bid winning solutions or projects can be provided.
  • Develop and assemble the design proposals for insertion within the contractor's documentation.
  • Select and evaluate design team or if notated undertake appropriate inspections.
  • Appoint the design team, agree programme of obligations and fee agreements for services/design deliverable's and resourcing conditions.
  • Manage the design team, the design development and design review process
  • Supervise and monitor performance of consultants to communicate with Statutory Bodies or Statutory Authorities for compliance approval.
  • Carry out continual site inspections to make certain the built product unites design intent and take suitable action if not.
  • Manage and monitor design delivery against approved deliverable dates, and report on performance difficulties.


Experience and Qualifications:
  • Operations background preferable.
  • You will have experience of working within the Civil Engineering industry, ideally within transportation and infrastructure.
  • Suitably qualified, Degree or similar. Hold the relevant chartered Membership of a Professional Institute or working towards gaining membership
  • CSCS card.
  • Full Driving licence required.
