DESIGN MANAGER | NEWBURY | REGIONAL MAIN CONTRACTOR

I am working with a client who require a Design Manager to work with in their Estimating and Production teams on their Design and Build tenders and projects.

The ideal candidate will be from a Structural Engineering background.

My client is a privately owned construction company operating within a 60 mile radius of its head office in Newbury, Berkshire. The company have a current turnover of £50m, they carry out traditional and design and build projects predominantly in the Education, Social Housing, Commercial and Industrial Sectors, typically ranging in value from £1m to £10m.


Their main driver is to provide first-class customer service and achieve the very highest levels of customer satisfaction in every project we undertake. They develop strong working partnerships with our clients and supply chain which result in a significant amount of repeat business.


Location: Head Office in Newbury.
Type: Permanent / Full time.
Package: Commensurate with experience but expected circa 60k.

The Role:


The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Design input on designated D&B tenders and secured projects.


Key Responsibilities:


* Work with the estimating team to evaluate tenders, establish client requirements and manage the design process.
* Attend tender launch / adjudication meetings.
* Assist with the production of Contractors Proposals.
* Work with the production team on secured projects to close out design and achieve RFC status.
* Organise, participate and record design review meetings.
* Agree external consultant's responsibility matrix, objectives, fees and information release schedule.
* Manage the flow of design information from external consultants and design subcontractors, and ensure the established timescales are achieved.
* Ensure cost effective solutions are incorporated in the design.
* Investigate VE opportunities where required.
* Manage the transfer of design responsibility from estimating to production.


The Individual should have:


* Proven experience of managing design on multiple projects.
* The ability to organise, plan, programme and manage workloads
* Good knowledge of the design and build process and good technical knowledge.
* Be a team player with good communication skills.
* Be commercially aware.
