Driver Operator - On Track Machines (OTM)

On Track Machines (OTMs) are a complex fleet of railway maintenance machines that are used across the rail industry to deliver on a range of different tasks. This includes tamping, to ensure good track alignment, to stone-blowing, which levels the track safely with small grade ballast.

The important work that OTMs carry out ensures that Britain's railways are safe and fit for use, preventing disruption, rough riding and derailment that might otherwise occur without the vital input of OTMs. You will be responsible for driving and operating our OTMs, ensuring that work activity is carried out safely, efficiently and effectively.

Your duties will include but will not be limited to:
  • Driving and Operating the OTM's, ensuring that inspections are carried out before and after use.




  • Managing the safe and effective operation of OTMs and reporting any issues, problems or faults.




  • Ensuring you are adhereing to Health and Saftety standards set by network rail.




  • Carrying out daily checks on OTMs, maintaining and servicing the machinery when appropriate.






  • Essential
    • Knowledge of train driver rules and regulations.
    • Competent in operating On Track Machines.
    • An understanding of the railway operating environment and planning systems.
    • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of Health and Saftey standards set by NWR.
    • PTS qualified.
    • Must hold a valid UK motor vehicle driving license


    Desirable
    • Good working knowledge of Train Driving Licences and Certificates Regulations 2010 (TDLCR).
    • Controller of Site Safety (COSS) competency or equivalent.
    • Training and assessing qualification or equivalent experience.


    Salary: £45,000 - £51,000 per annum depending on skills and experience

    This role involves working on a shift pattern, which will include weekends and night-shifts.
