Job Description;

My client is a National contractor who undertake an array of Design & Build projects including, commercial, industrial, mixed use and student accommodation schemes throughout the UK. They have become one of the most successful and respected names in the building, property development and construction industry and a vacancy has arisen for an Estimator to join their team in Denbighshire. This position may suit somebody who is an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for an office based role.

Duties;

Reporting to the Estimating Director, you will provide prices for design and build tenders, contractor design and bills of quantities. Your duties will include;
  • drawings to produce costs and additional costs
  • Check specification against drawing and current client standards including BSI/ISO, Building Regulations
  • Produce Bills of Quantities with costing for all requirements including quantity, amount, unit rate, labour & plant resources and constants
  • Produce net cost tender document for the relevant project
  • Provide input into possible areas of risk on project to Estimating Director for discussion at tendering process
  • Attend client meetings to discuss tender
  • Visit site for relevant tender process
  • Discuss with clients or employer agent where necessary on tender issues and queries
  • Discuss with subcontractors work involved on proposed projects
  • Provide input on successful tenders to departments when required
  • Arrange handover of all relevant documentation for successful tender
  • Provide regular update reports to Estimating Director
  • Provide comparison schedules of subcontractors and supplier costs
  • Calculation of prices using Estimating software package
  • Compile estimates including monitoring prices to identify compliant and non-compliant prices and source additional/ alternative prices
  • Provide tracking correspondence for pricing enquiries
  • Provide regular updates to Estimating Director and Estimator on work and discuss issues on a regular basis to develop own learning
  • Liaise, provide support and to develop Estimating Assistant to Estimator role
  • Liaise, provide support and delegate tasks to Estimating Assistant
  • Identify training needs of Estimating Assistant and provide details to Training and Development Manager
  • Ensure that subcontract and supplier data base is up to date


Experience;
  • You will already be experienced in working for a main contractor
  • You will be to level of NVQ 4, Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent experience
  • Full analytical pricing, ability to quantify and work on own initiative
  • Ability to produce orders
  • Be able to produce cost appraisals/budgets
  • Good knowledge of estimating software
  • Assertive and strong negotiating skills
  • Strong time management skills
