Job description

My client who is one of the top construction and development companies in the UK are looking for a Mechanical Team Leader to supervise their team based in Mansfield.

Duties will include:

  • Frequent exposure to dirty and hot working conditions. Temperatures up to 34°C and in dusty and dirty areas eg boiler house or plant rooms.
  • Frequent exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions. This could be body fluids and waste matter eg when working in service areas or on waste disposal equipment such as bed pan disposal units/food macerators.
  • When working outdoors subject to local weather conditions.
  • Travelling outdoors to workplace in and around the hospital sites.
  • Working on electrical installations (normally safe ie power turned off). Working with machinery and power driven tools where there is a safety issue.
  • Working on mechanical services installations that may be under pressure.
  • Working with chemicals and cleaning agents, oils and other engineering and building service products. NB precautions and practices dictated by COSHH assessment.
  • Dealing tactfully with disgruntled staff/patients/visitors.
  • Climbing step ladders, ladders and using hydraulic hoist (weekly).
  • Exerting moderate physical effort and occasionally exerting intense physical effort during a shift eg carrying step ladders or moving heavy equipment.
  • Pushing and pulling handcart loaded with materials and tools up slopes and along hospital corridors (daily).
  • Lifting weights of up to 25 kg.
  • Working in a standing or crouched position for 75% of shift time and working overhead ie when working on lighting (daily).
  • Working in confined spaces (as defined in Confined Spaces Regulations).
  • Mental effort required to examine and resolve complex technical problems, fault diagnosis, specifications and reports.
  • Be able to work and concentrate on achieving high quality work when working on Wards where patient care activities are ongoing and can be emotionally disturbing and disruptive to your work role.
  • Participation in on-call rota.
  • Potential for shift working (as per local agreement).
  • Must be able to attend training identified as a requirement of the role and travel to other locations to participate in said training.
  • To be able to adjust normal working hours, with advance agreement, to facilitate working weekends/nights, if required, due to access issues in/around the hospital sites.

Qualifications/Experience required:

  • C&G Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Services or in Plant Engineering or equivalent.
  • Specific qualifications relating to refrigeration, steam boiler plant operation (desirable).
  • Completion of a structured training programme in Mechanical Engineering for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Experience of working within a Healthcare setting
  • Desirable: knowledge of Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Confined Spaces, CPR Training and CORGI registration.


37.5 per week, Monday - Friday - typically 0800 - 1600 hrs.
