Job Title - Operational Safety Advisor

Monday-Friday

0900-1700

Unpaid 30 minutes break

Responsibilities
  • Support the development and delivery of health and safety improvement plans
  • Provide accurate, timely and pragmatic advice on compliance with health and safety legislation
  • Develop and deliver on-site health and safety training packages
  • Develop and deliver an internal health and safety audit plan.
  • Develop and deliver a programme of health and safety inspections
  • Coach and mentor site personnel on all aspects of health and safety
  • Conduct investigations of incidents and near misses to identify root causes and their corrective actions
  • Monitor the reporting, investigation quality and closure of corrective actions as the site's Business Unit Incident Coordinator (BUIC)
  • Support the Operations and Maintenance teams in the development and improvement of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Support the site Compliance Manager in the accuracy, reporting and analysis of H&S safety data
  • Keep up to date with changes in health and safety legislation and practice and its application to the waste industry
  • Ensure internal and external lessons learned and good practice are communicated
  • Maintain the sited Integrated Management System and ensure continued alignment with Group policies, processes and procedures
  • Support the central Waste Treatment HSEQ Support team with the communication and implementation of business-wide health and safety programmes, safety alerts and provision of information and data when requested
  • Organise, support and lead workforce engagement groups e.g. health and safety committees.
  • Provide health and safety content for site management briefings, safety alerts and health and safety bulletins
  • Liaise with the site HSEQ coordinator and assist with their development through coaching and mentoring


Qualifications
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent (essential)
  • TECH IOSH (Technical Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) or equivalent (desirable)


Skills
  • Excellent communication, relationship management and influencing skills at all levels of the organisation
  • Effective Organisational and planning skills - ability to set and manage own work programme
  • Coaching and training skills - ability to influence through 1:1 coaching and delivery of engaging training


Experience
  • At least 5 years health and safety experience in a similar role within a multi-site organisation (essential)
  • Substantial experience of working within the waste and/or power industry (desirable)
