  • Managing packages or projects minimum £20,000,000


The Company & Project

A leading Principal Contractor, with experience delivering major civil engineering projects nationally. You will have the opportunity to work on a major £600 million major highways upgrade.

The Role

This is a key position on a major contract that will not only require strong commercial experience, but also strong strategic, team and stake holder management skills.

Reporting to the Project Manager or Commercial Manager for all commercial aspects of a project or a section of a project, you will be responsible for effective client relationship management to encourage smooth commercial progression of the contract.

Key skills and responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Business Leadership - Understanding the impact of commercial and technical changes at strategic level.

Tendering and Pre-Contract - Provide commercial support to the tendering process when required.

Project Start Up - A high degree of understanding and working knowledge of project start up procedures and actively involved in the implementation of those procedures.

Procurement - Carrying out subcontract procurement in accordance with the procurement timetable, ensuring that materials and off site services are procured. Preparing subcontract invitations to tender and evaluate tender returns (time, cost, quality and SHE) and making recommendations to appoint subcontracts

Payment and Invoicing - Maximising cash flow through timely preparation of valuations, submission of invoices and receipt of payment. Managing prompt preparation and settlement of final accounts, including variations, claims and disputes.

Cost Control - Monitor resources and costs to ensure that projects meet and / or exceed targets.

Accounting and Reporting - The production of accurate and timely CVR reports and forecasts. Using a high-level understanding of planning and programming.

Change Control - Ensuring that any "Change" is identified, that it is challenged where the performance of the project could be affected, that the cost (time, and money) of all client "Change" is recovered. Carrying out early value engineering activities as part of the project team

Main Contract - Ensuring that all necessary contractual notices are put in place

Subcontract Administration - Re-measurement and provision of quantified schedules of works and / or bills of quantities



The Person

As the ideal candidate you will have previous Quantity Surveying experience, especially on major civils projects.
  • Professionally qualified Quantity Surveyor (RICS, ICES, CIOB)
  • Chartered or member of a relevant organisation
  • Heavy Civil engineering project experience (Earthworks, Drainage, RC structures)
  • Managing packages or projects minimum £20,000,000
  • 2 stage tender experience an advantage
