Job description

PSR are recruiting for a Senior / Principal Structural Engineer for a £40m commercial development in Birmingham.

The position is to initially work on a the scheme in the centre of Birmingham but also play a key role in building a brand new design team for the Midlands region and assist with future work opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new venture within a Billion pound turnover business, they are most active in Commercial, Education, Science & Leisure sectors engaging with projects of £15m - £100m in value.

The ideal candidate should possess demonstrable experience in building structures, ideally across the education and commercial sectors and be able to communicate well and manage a team to deliver good quality construction information.

The role will focus on:
  • Identifying and prioritising necessary structural investigations, planning, organising, executing and reporting on investigations.
  • The production of, drawings, reports, calculations and structural specifications and meet the client brief.
  • Undertaking the structural engineering design for projects working with both design and construction teams.
  • Working closely with designers of other disciplines to produce coordinated designs
  • Planning and monitoring use of own time resources on projects, other engineers and technicians.
  • Working within project teams, with responsibility for production of deliverable's to agreed time-lines.
  • Attending project meetings and communicating with all staff, external design team members and clients.
  • Work independently and be responsible for checking the quality and accuracy and verifying your teams output.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to your team.
  • Ability to apply relevant codes and standards to engineering principals and judgement.


Candidate Profile
  • Degree qualified and/or demonstrable experience within structural engineering.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a design and built environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, balance priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to communicate through sketching, drawing, presentations, and in writing.
  • Commercial awareness and acumen.
  • Excellent technical design skills and proficiency in 3D analysis and design.
  • Experience of high value (£30m+) complex builds
