Job description

My client is a leading international materials development and commercialisation organisation. They have offices and laboratories in the US, UK and the Far East, and provide aterials and assurance expertise to clients in a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, construction, ceramics, additive manufacturing, energy and power engineering.

My client is looking for someone to grow the UK structures business by gaining new customers and also developing relationships with existing clients. This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background (Civil/ Structural/ Mechanical Engineering) and 3-5 years' experience working within the construction industry who is interested in growing into a commercial, customer facing role.

Previous sales experience is not essential as this role will be working alongside a well-established Business Manager with a strong and existing client base. Full sales training will be provided and more important is your technical ability to understand our clients' needs and the desire to build a career in a customer-facing, commercial role.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Grow the Structures business through achieving and exceeding revenue and margin targets
  • Hold visits and discussions with existing customers and new prospects within the construction industry to identify and develop opportunities
  • Ascertain the needs of our customers and connect those needs with the technical solutions offered through our experts and capabilities, working with the technical teams to generate proposals
  • Work closely with Marketing, Operations, Product Management and Sales colleagues to share best practice knowledge on the Structures marketplace and to fully understand our value proposition
  • Be confident discussing technical requirements and capabilities with customers, referring to the technical experts for complex and unusual requirements
  • Formulate and execute sales plans in order to execute targets

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree level or higher in a technical field relevant to the Construction industry (for example Civil or Structural Engineering or associated Engineering degree)
  • At least 3 years of experience working within a technical capacity in the Construction or Structures sector
  • Comfortable in networking and willing to proactively gain entry into and generate value with prospects who have not dealt with our company previously
  • Excellent and proven ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work in a "one team" manner to resolve any challenges that arise internally or externally
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and oral at all levels of seniority
  • The role is field based with at least one day a week at our head-office in Stoke-on-Trent and the incumbent will be expected to travel extensively within the UK
