Job description

PSR Solutions are currently looking for a Temporary Works Design Engineer/ Civil Engineering to join their team and work on the iconic HS2. The Successful Candidate should be reliable, hardworking and have completed similar roles within Construction.

Key responsibilities
  • Undertake Temporary Works (TW) designs in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and excavations and excavation support.
  • Scoping temporary works design packages for external subcontract designers and managing the design process from the initial design brief preparation through to construction on site.
  • To ensure the TW Management Plan is applied in accordance with the site necessities and to support in every stage of the TW development process. This will include the supervision of the erection, use, maintenance and dismantling of the temporary works, as applicable.
  • Carrying out the checks of the scheme(s) during construction on site and liaising with the TWC to ensure any modifications to the scheme or differences from the envisaged conditions (use or environmental) are drawn to the attention of the designer.
  • To support technically the site managers
  • Provide Temporary Works designs in accordance with codes of specifications.
  • Prepare design risk assessments to eliminate or mitigate design risk to the business.
  • Assist with updating of procedure for the procurement of Temporary Works design, installation, loading and removal.
  • Undertake site briefings as necessary.
  • Attend temporary works meetings on site as necessary.
  • Offer guidance and coaching to junior members of the design and construction team.
  • Assist with delivering parts of various internal Temporary Works training courses.
  • Undertake site audits for procurement of temporary works against the company procedures and prepare audit reports.
  • Assist with continually seeking improvement of our engineering processes and performance.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of effective temporary works training material.




Support the TWC with:
  • Identify and develop a planning for the TW, in accordance with the Permanent Works programme.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating "Temporary Works Register" and submit it to the construction team.
  • Ensure the programme is achieved managing the parts involved or developing specific activities.
  • Ensure that a design brief is prepared or support with the preparation of a design brief adequate and in accordance with the actual situation on site (ensure that any interference or constraints identified on the permanent works design are included).
  • Ensure that a satisfactory temporary works design is developed on time and design check is carried out.
  • Maintain a file of all the documents produced and manage the distribution of them to all the interested parts.
  • Record and monitor any agreed changes in materials or construction and corrections of faults.
  • To ensure the independence of checks, where required, have been carried out.
  • To confirm that all the appropriate steps have been taken, prior to the issue of formal permission to load.
  • To inform about any critical stage in order to control that the standard specified is met.
  • To ensure that once the temporary works has been checked and passed, it is not altered until the loading stage has been completed, and the design allows for it to be dismantled or altered (checking critical individual items).
  • Ensure that the temporary works are dismantled in accordance with a defined procedure.
  • To provide any technical support needed on site during the whole construction process.


Experience and Qualifications
  • Experience within a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organisation.
  • Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related). A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND, may be acceptable where a very significant level of experience in a senior technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
