As National Apprenticeship Week comes to an end, we decided to check in with one of our newest apprentices to see how she is getting on in her new role at PSR Solutions and whether an apprenticeship was the right path for her.
Although there are a number of apprenticeship providers it can be difficult for young individuals to decide what apprenticeship they need to take in order to fulfil their career goals, as well as struggling to find the right company for them. Georgia left Sixth Form in July 2022 with no clear plan and unsure what the right route for her was.
“I had no real idea of what I wanted to do upon finishing my A levels. I wanted to stay in education but I didn't want to do it full-time. I narrowed down my options, did some research and realised that an apprenticeship was the best option. I could gain the practical experience I needed whilst studying at the same time. I also knew that University couldn't offer me any hands-on experience as well so started looking at a number of apprenticeship courses that would suit me."
Georgia was drawn to a particular aspect of her course after doing Business as one of her A Levels. "I wanted to find something that would allow me to combine both my artistic and business skills, and after finishing a marketing unit in my business course, it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for."
Arts, Media, and Publishing accounted for just 0.6% of apprenticeship starts in 2021/2022 (Aug-Jul), making it one of the industries with the fewest*. This has been the case for the previous four years, with participation in creative apprenticeships falling by a third in the last three years (2019), according to data released by the Department for Education (DfE).*
Georgia is currently undertaking a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship which is due to come to an end in February 2022. We asked her:
What is your favourite part of PSR?
"The atmosphere and culture is unlike anything else. It's a place where everyone has your best interests at heart and everyone is genuinely nice."
What are your plans once your apprenticeship finishes?
"I have a passion for social media, which has only increased since I started my apprenticeship. My manager at PSR Solutions listened exactly to my short-term and long-term career goals and has provided me with the tools, training and tasks that are relevant and can take my passion to the next level. I hope to stay at PSR Solutions when my apprenticeship finishes, with my aim of becoming a Social Media Manager within the next few years."
If you could give your past self one piece of advice, what would it be?
"Don't be worried about not knowing what you want to do or where you're going because everything happens for a reason and everything will fall into place eventually."
We're always on the lookout for talented individuals who fit our culture. If you're looking for an apprenticeship and think PSR Solutions is the place for you, check out if we're recruiting now or contact our social value team.
