PSR today received the news that it had been awarded the gold standard Investors in People (IIP) accreditation, a level of accreditation only held by 15% of Investors in People accredited organisations.
WHAT IS IT - The Investors in People Standard, is a straightforward framework to help organisations benchmark performance and create effective results. Not just a one-off review, but an exciting journey with new perspective and clear milestones along the way.
Constantly moving, constantly improving – hundreds of business leaders, academics and industry experts were involved in creating the framework. The standard focuses on nine indicators and 27 themes. These all reflect the features of leading businesses and organisations which consistently outperform industry norms.
PSR ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT STAFF - PSR has always put great emphasis on instilling shared values throughout its national network of offices and takes pride in investing in its workforce.
We have a defined mission statement and core values which coincides with the services our forward-thinking staff provide:
THE PAST 3 YEARS - Since our last accreditation in 2015, PSR has ensured that staff have received the relevant training and support to work to the best of their ability. We have introduced our Wellness Programme and a new refined and revamped training programme, blending innovative online learning and specialist construction recruitment training. The continued feedback from our ever-growing workforce has made it simple to acknowledge their suggestions and then implement their requirements to benefit our team and the business.
Managing Director James Sanders set out his vision in 2016 with the 10-year business plan. The vision is to achieve the following by 2026: 150 staff, 6 offices, £100m turnover, £20m Gross Margin and £5m net profit. As a business, we are currently on track to hit these targets, one of which is nearly achieved in the six offices. In the last 18 months, PSR has launched offices in the North of the UK in Sheffield, in the Midlands in Birmingham and most recently, on the south-coast in Southampton, establishing our presence nationwide and growing our office total to 5. This nationwide push has been coupled with the 20%+ year on year growth of the business, highlighted by our staffs work and enthusiasm to making a difference to our clients and candidates.
THE PROCESS - The overall accreditation process is one of which the assessors from Investors in People take great time in concluding a business’s accreditation rating. It began with IIP talking with senior management before distributing a survey to all staff, aimed to highlight any key themes or issues raised by staff. A total of 67 personnel completed the survey, equating to 85% of the entire company. The interview responses guided Investors in People in how the next phase of the process was designed and administered.
Interviews were conducted following the completion of the survey, with 12 staff selected. A mixture of staff from all functions of the business were purposively picked, as the Investors in People felt they were ideally placed to talk about the IIP standards. The respondents then spoke about their experiences and attitudes towards the company in a confidential manner.
The final part of the accreditation process saw the Investors in People attend our Summer Conference this year. Assessors were keen to see how the offices engaged and collaborated with each other without the knowledge of their attendance. The feedback received was very positive and it was clear to the assessors that all staff and managers from the different offices interacted well with each other.
OUTCOME - After careful consideration, the IIP felt that PSR met the requirements of the Gold Award Level, a title only held by only 15% of Investors in People accredited organisations.
The IIP had this to say regarding the result: “PSR Group is clearly an organisation that doesn’t stand still and is on track to achieve its turnover and growth aspirations. The assessment demonstrated that PSR Group meets the requirements of the Gold Award Level – an achievement it should be very proud of and one which puts it in the top 15% of Investors in People accredited organisations.”
“The Management Team have sought to establish a culture which actively supports staff, sets stretching targets, but recognises and incentivises achievements and celebrates success whilst achieving its overall objectives. To complement this, clear Values have been established, using the acronym PSR TEAM – Pride, Success, Respect, Transparent, Experience, Accuracy, Motivation.”
