Design Manager - Main Contractor

PSR Solutions are recruiting for an experienced Design Manager on behalf of a leading main contractor. Reporting to the Contracts Director, you will be responsible for coordinating all design disciplines across the £150M project, working closely with the project team to manage the design process and deliver a high-quality scheme on programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the design programme and information flow, ensuring alignment with the construction programme.

  • Coordinate the design approval process, including drawings, technical submittals, samples, RFIs, and change control.

  • Lead and manage consultants, subcontractors, and specialist design teams to ensure compliant, accurate, and timely design information.

  • Produce and manage the information release schedule and Contractor Design Proposals (CDPs).

  • Chair design workshops, technical reviews, and coordination meetings.

  • Work closely with the commercial and QS teams to review tender packs and manage design-related commercial risk.

  • Assist with consultant appointments, scope reviews, and the development of the design responsibility matrix.

  • Act as the key interface between design, commercial, and site teams.

  • Support the discharge of planning conditions and manage Building Control approvals.

  • Implement and maintain QA systems, ensuring design and build quality meets client expectations.

  • Maintain accurate project records and reporting.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree or HND in a construction-related discipline (Architecture, Design Management, Construction Management, or similar).

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Design Manager or Design Coordinator role within the construction industry.

  • Strong understanding of the full construction process, including procurement and commercial considerations.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.

  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety and building regulations.

  • IT literate, with strong Microsoft Office skills.

  • Flexible to work across UK sites as required.

  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
